A Letter From The Director
Dear Team,
As we enter October and the final quarter of 2026, I want us to focus our attention on the environment we are selling into — and equally on what is required from us.
The South African market remains challenging. Customers are cautious, budgets are under pressure, decision-making cycles are longer, and every rand of expenditure is being scrutinised.
Businesses are asking harder questions before committing capital:
Do I really need this?
What return will it deliver?
Can I delay the decision?
Is there a more cost-effective alternative?
This does not mean there is no opportunity.
It means that the standard required to win has increased.
In this market, customers will not buy simply because we have a good product. They will buy when we demonstrate that our solution solves a real business problem, reduces cost, improves productivity, mitigates risk, creates revenue, or delivers a measurable return on investment.
October: From Selling Products to Creating Business Value
Our challenge this month is simple:
Stop selling what the product is. Start selling what the product does for the customer's business.
Every salesperson should be able to answer five questions before presenting a proposal:
1. What business problem are we solving?
If the customer does not recognise the problem, there is no urgency to buy.
2. What is the financial or operational impact of that problem?
Translate the problem into rands, time, productivity, risk, or lost opportunity.
3. Why should the customer act now?
A proposal without urgency becomes another quote sitting in someone's inbox.
4. Why us?
Our differentiation must go beyond price. It must include our people, expertise, service, technology, support, and ability to deliver.
5. What is the next commitment?
Every customer interaction must move the opportunity forward.
Activity Creates Opportunity
In a slower economy, we cannot wait for the market to come to us.
October must be a month of deliberate prospecting and customer engagement.
We need:
- More conversations.
- More appointments.
- More demonstrations.
- More proposals.
- More engagement with decision-makers.
- More cross-selling into existing customers.
- More referrals.
- And, most importantly, more disciplined follow-up.
The mathematics of sales remains simple:
Activity creates conversations.
Conversations create opportunities.
Opportunities create pipeline.
Pipeline creates revenue.
When market conditions become difficult, activity and execution become our competitive advantage.
Protect the Customer Base
Our existing customers are one of our greatest assets.
Before looking outside our business for every new opportunity, make sure we fully understand the potential that already exists within our customer base.
Ask:
- What else can we solve for this customer?
- Which other departments, branches, or divisions can we engage?
- Which products or services are they currently buying elsewhere?
- Where can we consolidate suppliers?
- Where can we introduce recurring revenue solutions?
- Who can they introduce us to?
Growth does not always require finding a new customer. Sometimes it requires understanding an existing customer better.
Don't Default to Discounting
Customers will continue to challenge pricing. We should expect it.
But our first response cannot always be a discount.
When price becomes the conversation, return to value. Understand what the customer is comparing us against. Demonstrate the cost of doing nothing. Quantify the return. Structure the commercial solution differently where appropriate.
Margin matters.
Revenue without acceptable margin does not create a sustainable business.
Our objective is therefore not simply to win the deal. It is to win the right deal at the right value.
Execution Will Separate Us
There are many things we cannot control.
- We cannot control interest rates.
- We cannot control fuel prices.
- We cannot control the economy.
- We cannot control our competitors.
- We cannot control when customers become nervous about spending.
But we can control our preparation, activity, customer engagement, pipeline discipline, follow-up, attitude, and execution.
That is where I want our energy focused.
The Final Quarter Starts Now
October is not simply another month.
It is the beginning of the final quarter of 2026.
The work we do now will determine how we finish the year — and how strongly we enter 2027.
Therefore, every member of the sales team should be focused on four priorities:
PROSPECT. QUALIFY. PROGRESS. CLOSE.
- Build new pipeline.
- Challenge old pipeline.
- Get closer to your customers.
- Engage higher in customer organisations.
- Understand the commercial problem before presenting the solution.
- Ask for the business.
- Never leave a customer meeting without agreeing on the next step.
South Africa remains a market with enormous opportunity, but opportunity does not automatically become revenue.
Execution converts opportunity into results.
Let's enter October with urgency, discipline, and confidence.
Let's control what we can control.
Let's support each other continuously.
And let's finish 2026 stronger than we started it.
Let's go and win the month.

Thank you for being part of the Instacom story. See you later :)
You don’t always have to be “fine.”
Some days feel heavier than others. You might still show up, answer emails, join meetings and get through your to-do list while quietly carrying something nobody else can see.
That’s why checking in with yourself matters.
Are you tired, or are you running on empty? Are you stressed, or have you been ignoring what you need for too long? You don’t need to wait until everything feels overwhelming before you take care of yourself. Rest when you can. Speak to someone you trust. Step away for a moment. Give yourself permission to slow down.
And remember to check in on the people around you too. A simple “How are you, really?” can mean more than you realise. Take care of your mind. It matters just as much as everything else you’re working on.
You never know what someone may be carrying behind the scenes.
How are you feeling this week?

Music / Book You’re Enjoying?
Even my Spotify gets confused as to what music I like… Most recently I’ve been listening to a lot of metal, folk, punk, and rock. Book I’ve started focussing a lot on recently is The Bible. Next in line is “Extreme Ownership” by Jocko Willink.
Perfect Future Tech?
I’m a fast thinker but a slow talker. If I could have a tool that quietly records and organises all my thoughts and ideas in the background, so I can go back and review or act on them later… That… or a clone of myself. Haha
Where Were You Born?
Born in Germiston, but grew up in Johannesburg South, Ormonde. AKA: Gangsters Paradise. Lekker bru. LOL
When Did You Start At Instacom?
I started working at Instacom when newspaper ads were still a thing! November 2014.
What Do You Want To Learn To Do?
To become more disciplined, everything else will then fall in line.
How well do you know Danie Terblanche?
The race for the 2026 title is on.

Friday #2: Car started, only to have a magnetic attraction to a stationary pole.
Recommendations:
* Anro is officially banned from driving on Fridays.
* Poles in the parking lot are advised to stay alert.
Cape Town Showing some Heritage day spirit
Postponed: Company Sleepover at Louis’s House
Big shoutout to the entire team for having the fastest event response time in company history! Within 10 minutes of an accidental voice note, half the office had flight options open and parking spots picked out for a trip to Louis’s in the Free State. While the “Louis Retreat” isn’t happening due to a slight lack of actual arrangements, the team spirit was 10/10. Perhaps Sales Conference should be at Louis house next year.
